Casino ABC: Letter C

From "Call" to "Croupier"

Let’s continue with the letter C – and once again, the Casino world has a few terms you should know in order to appear confident. Whether it’s Coup, Cash Out or the Croupier – with this knowledge, you won’t falter at the gaming table.

Call

In poker, there are three ways to respond to a bet: raise, fold, or simply match it – this is called a call. Imagine someone places a certain amount into the pot. With a call, you signal: “Okay, I’ll pay exactly that amount, but I won’t raise.”

Why do players do this? Perhaps because you have a fairly good hand and want to see what happens next. Or maybe because you don’t quite have the courage to raise the bet. In any case, it keeps you in the game – without much risk, but also without putting any pressure on others.

Cash In / Cash Out

Cash In:
Before you can play in a Casino, you need to exchange your cash for chips. Think of it as your entry ticket to the gaming table – nothing works here without chips.

Cash Out:
When you want to take your winnings with you, it’s time for the cash out. This means exchanging your chips back into cash.

Check

Imagine you are sitting at a poker table and it’s your turn, but no one before you has placed a bet. What can you do? Instead of putting money into the pot straight away, you can check. This means you leave the bet at zero and simply wait to see what the others do.

But be careful: if someone bets after you, the check is over – then you have to either call, raise, or fold.

Community Cards

Community Cards are the face-up cards in poker that are placed in the middle of the table and can be used by all players. Each player receives their own cards (Hole Cards) and combines them with the open Community Cards to form the best possible poker hand.

Chips

Chips, also known as tokens, are the official means of payment in the Casino’s classic games. At tables such as Roulette , Blackjack or poker , the coloured chip replaces cash and ensures faster, more transparent play.

Depending on their value, chips come in different colours, so it’s worth keeping track. This way, you can always make sure you place the right bet.

Croupier

The croupier, also known as the dealer or the bank, is the central figure at every gaming table. He ensures that everything runs fairly and according to the rules – whether it’s roulette, blackjack or poker. With calm composure, he shuffles, deals and collects, never losing his cool.

His main tasks? Dealing the cards, overseeing the bets, paying out the winnings and, of course, making sure no one cheats and everything remains fair. A good croupier has lightning-fast mental arithmetic skills, a steel poker face and a steady hand – after all, a lot of money depends on his movements.

Coup
