The Risk Ladder

Challenge: Climb the gamble ladder!

It has become an essential part of every multigamer, is among the most popular elements of our MERKUR games, delivers thrills and excitement – and has also driven more than a few of us to despair.

We explain the well-known and much-loved risk ladder for beginners, and we are sure to have one or two new facts in store even for long-standing ladder pros.

How to climb the risk ladder

To access the risk ladder, you first need a win. After that, you will notice the illuminated risk buttons (ladder and cards), indicating that you can start the risk ladder. The size of your win determines the level at which you enter the ladder. Using the risk ladder button, you now try to climb it – commonly referred to as pressing up.

If you make it to 14,000, you advance to the risk ladder plus.

However, if you fail to climb to the next steps of the ladder, you eventually fall back to zero and return to the game.

Risk ladder plus

At the end of 2018, the risk ladder received an exciting update: while 14,000 had previously been the highest level, the risk ladder plus now goes up to 30,000. Its special feature: you drop only to a minimum of 10,000 bits and never leave empty-handed if your pressing up attempt is unsuccessful.

The risk ladder plus is available exclusively at MERKUR gaming machines in an arcade or casino.

The history of the risk ladder

The risk ladder made its first appearance in the 1970s in the MERKUR Komet, one of the very first gaming machines developed by the Gauselmann Group. In 1979, Paul Gauselmann patented the risk ladder.

Since then, there have been several imitators of the popular risk ladder, but MERKUR has always been one step ahead: after the transition of gaming machines from classic reels and discs to multigamers, MERKUR was the first manufacturer to integrate the risk ladder into the new multigamers.

Did you know?

In the past, people often spoke of “140 machines”. This was how guests referred to the gaming machines with games that included a risk ladder.
