In golf, mistakes are severely penalized—and it shows right on the scorecard. A penalty stroke is always added whenever the ball cannot be played normally according to the rules of the game.
- Water hazard: If the ball lands in the water, a one-stroke penalty is incurred.
- Out of Bounds: If the ball leaves the marked playing area, a one-stroke penalty is incurred, plus the distance lost.
- Unplayable lie: If the ball is lying in an unfavorable position, the player may declare it unplayable. The penalty is one stroke and a new drop (placing the ball) nearby.
Even a single mistake can significantly lower your overall score. In close tournaments, such moments carry particular weight, but they also make the game—and your golf bet—truly exciting.
