The exclusion system of the Regional Council Darmstadt explained simply!
In this series, we present terms from the field of prevention and player protection. We start with OASIS. And no – this is not about the famous English band, but about a player protection system introduced by the Regional Council Darmstadt.
OASIS stands for “Onlineabfrage Spielerstatus” which means “Online Query of Player Status” in English and is a system developed in Germany for the protection and self-control of players. The aim of OASIS is to provide a central point of contact for people who have problems with gambling or simply need a break. The system makes it possible to initiate a self-exclusion that then applies to all gambling offers – whether in casinos, virtual slot games, arcades, or sports betting.
If you feel that you need a break from gambling, you can set up a self-exclusion via OASIS. This exclusion is then recorded centrally and applies across all connected gambling services. This means that once you are excluded, you will no longer have access to gaming offers – no matter where you try to play. The system therefore serves as an effective barrier to help you maintain control over your gambling behaviour and prevent potential problems caused by excessive play.
An exclusion can be set up for a minimum period of 3 months. It does not expire automatically. Lifting the exclusion must be requested in writing from the Regional Council in Darmstadt. Applications are only accepted after the selected exclusion period has expired. Therefore, lifting the exclusion before the end of the period is not possible.
A special feature: in online slot games and online sports betting, a 24-hour exclusion is possible, which expires automatically. If you choose this option, you will be excluded from all connected gambling services for 24 hours.
OASIS is an important tool for responsible gaming. It gives you the opportunity to actively take steps if you notice that you are losing control while playing – or for other reasons. The option of self-exclusion can be a decisive step in preventing or counteracting gambling-related problems. Moreover, the existence of systems like OASIS demonstrates that player protection is taken seriously and that you, as a player, are not left on your own.
If playing causes more stress than fun because you are spending too much time or money, it is time to seek help. You are not alone! Free support is available from the Federal Centre for Health Education ( BIÖG ) on 0800 1372700 . There, or at local counselling centres, you can receive advice – whether it concerns your own gaming behaviour or that of someone close to you. Seeking help is an important step.
