How does Croatia play?

What is especially important to players in Croatia?

There are many gaming preferences: some enjoy board games, others team games, and others gambling. And just as there are generally many different preferences when it comes to games, there are also different preferences within each type of game. In this article, you will learn what MERKUR offers players in Croatia to suit their exact taste.

Holiday feeling

Croatia – the small country on the Mediterranean knows how to enchant with its beauty. The national parks, beaches, and charming cities captivate millions of tourists every year. Hundreds of islands off the Croatian mainland invite visitors to swim, and with an average daily high of 30°C in summer, it is the perfect place to do so.

Many kilometres separate the arcades in Croatia from those in Germany – yet the unifying element is the high-class MERKUR design.

Similarities and differences

When it comes to gambling, many things in Croatia are similar to Germany – but many are also quite different. As in Germany, players will find the largest number of gambling options in arcades (in Croatia they are called "Automat Klub"). As one of the 3.8 million Croatians, a player faces the challenge of choosing from more than 13,000 machines in almost 400 Automat Klubs across the country. For comparison: in Germany there are around 161,000 cash-operated gaming machines and 83 million inhabitants. So, as you can see, machine gaming is very popular in Croatia. However, alongside these similarities, there are also clear differences.

For example, Croatian gambling laws are structured differently from those in Germany. In Croatia, the law requires every "Automat Klub" to have at least 30 machines. In Germany, a maximum of twelve gaming machines is permitted on 144 square metres of floor space. It is different in the casinos: here there are no restrictions on the number of machines – neither in Germany nor in Croatia. Most of the 22 casinos in the country have more than 50 machines under their roof.

Betting shops, on the other hand, are allowed a maximum of two gaming machines on their premises. By comparison, in Germany no gaming machines may be installed in betting shops.

With such a wide range of machines, things can quickly get a little crowded, which is why Croatian Automat Klubs and casinos combine different types of machines. There are the older, more compact machines as well as the newer, larger ones. Both types are popular with guests, and so you will find both in the arcades and casinos.

In general, Croatians are keen players and particularly enjoy gaming machines. Multigamers with games offering free games are especially popular. Jackpots, too, have found a special place in the hearts of Croatian players: from jackpots or prize draws awarded only within a specific arcade, to link jackpots or happy hour jackpots – all are eagerly played. Often, players focus mainly on the special jackpot rather than on the winnings within the game itself.
