Darts rules

Darts is a precision sport where players throw darts at a circular dartboard.
The aim of the game is to score points through accurate throws.

Here’s how a game of darts works:

  • Start: Each player begins with a set score (usually 501 or 301).
  • Throws: Players take turns throwing three darts per round at the dartboard.
  • Scoring down: The points scored with each throw are subtracted from the starting total.
  • Goal: The game ends when a player reaches exactly 0 points.
  • Finish: To win, the final dart must land in a double field or the inner bullseye.

The Dartboard

  • Bullseye: The center of the board.

    • Inner bullseye: 50 points
    • Outer bullseye: 25 points

  • Numbered segments (1–20): The board is divided into 20 numbered sections, each with different point values.

  • Double ring (outer narrow ring): Doubles the points of that segment.

  • Triple ring (inner narrow ring): Triples the points of that segment.

  • Distance to the board: 237 cm from the throwing line to the board

  • Height of the board: 173 cm from the floor to the bullseye

Special Darts Rules at the World Championship:

The Darts World Championship differs in many ways from a regular league – and these special features make it truly unique:

  • Knockout system: Unlike a league, where players collect points over an entire season, the World Championship is a pure knockout tournament. Lose a match, and you’re out.
  • Set system: Matches are played in a set format. Each set consists of a certain number of legs that must be won. This adds extra excitement, as a player can come back even after falling behind in sets.
  • Sudden Death: In a decisive leg (for example, in the final set at 2:2 in legs), a sudden-death scenario can occur – making the match incredibly tense and thrilling.
