Bundesliga Matchday Predictions 2026/27 – Matchday 6

After five matchdays, Freiburg and Dortmund are tied at 13 points each, with the Sport-Club leading the table thanks to a better goal differential. BVB dropped points for the first time in a 2-2 draw against Bremen, while Bayern follows in third place with 11 points. At the very bottom, Mönchengladbach is still waiting for its first point after a 1-2 loss in the derby in Cologne. Matchday 6 kicks off on Friday with the game between Frankfurt and Cologne, followed by six matches on Saturday, including the top matchup between Bayern and Leipzig in the evening game. The round concludes on Sunday with Leverkusen vs. Freiburg and the match between Gladbach and Hoffenheim.

Merkur Quick Tips for Matchday 6 of the Bundesliga

After the 0-6 debacle in Leipzig, Eintracht is under pressure in Friday night’s match. Cologne, on the other hand, beat Gladbach 2-1 in the derby, gained a lot of confidence, and sits two points ahead of the Hessians with seven points. With a home win, Frankfurt could move past Cologne and make up some ground again. The defense has been a liability lately, but home-field advantage works in the hosts’ favor.

Tip: 1

With a 1-0 win over Elversberg, Union celebrated its first victory of the season thanks to Livan Burcu’s goal in the 81st minute and climbed to 16th place. Dortmund led Bremen 2-0 until the 87th minute but had to settle for a draw after conceding two late goals. As the second-place team with 13 points, BVB remains the favorite nonetheless. At the Alte Försterei, the Westphalians will likely be looking to redeem themselves.

Tip: 2

Thanks to Miro Muheim’s goal in the 94th minute, HSV won a turbulent match in Hoffenheim 3–2 and now has six points. Stuttgart prevailed 2–0 in Paderborn on goals by Chabot and Führich and also moved to six points. Both teams thus enter the match tied on points, which promises to be a hard-fought game.

Tip: X

After trailing 0-2 in Dortmund, Bremen managed a late 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Ludovit Reis and Niclas Füllkrug and now sits in the middle of the league table with eight points. Paderborn suffered a 0-2 loss to Stuttgart and remains near the bottom of the table with four points. At the Weserstadion, the home team has the edge in form and should take the field with confidence following their comeback in Dortmund.

Tip: 1

Schalke lost 1-2 in Freiburg—despite Yuito Suzuki receiving a yellow-red card—only after Keisuke Gotō scored in the 85th minute. The Royal Blues are in the bottom third of the table with five points. Mainz was on the receiving end of a high-scoring thriller against Leverkusen and lost 3–4 despite two goals from Anthony Caci. Only two points separate the two teams in the standings; Mainz is just ahead of Schalke with seven points.
Prediction: X

Elversberg lost 0-1 at Union and thus failed to score a goal. Augsburg, on the other hand, earned a 2-2 draw against Bayern after Robin Fellhauer scored the fastest goal in Bundesliga history just 8.4 seconds into the game. In the standings, Augsburg sits with eight points, just one point ahead of Elversberg. Offensively, the hosts have looked less threatening lately, while Augsburg is coming into the match with a bit more confidence.
Prediction: 2

The Munich team could only manage a 2-2 draw in Augsburg and is looking to stay in contention for the top spot in Saturday night’s marquee matchup. Leipzig routed Frankfurt 6-0, keeping a clean sheet in the process, and heads into the match with confidence. Both teams boast tremendous offensive firepower, so a high-scoring game seems inevitable. The defensive units, in particular, will determine who gains the upper hand in this matchup. Playing at home, we expect the record champions to come out on top in the end.

Tip: 1 + Over 3.5 Goals

Leverkusen came away with a 4-3 victory in a high-scoring match in Mainz, while Freiburg beat Schalke 2-1 and sits atop the standings. With a win on Sunday afternoon, Leverkusen could close in on the league leader. The Sport-Club heads to the Rhineland riding high and full of confidence, having yet to lose a game this season. The high-scoring Werkself faces an opponent in top form, which is why we expect a high-scoring draw.

Tip: X

Gladbach came away empty-handed with a 1-2 loss in the derby in Cologne—coach Alexander Blessin’s debut—and sits at the bottom of the league with zero points. Hoffenheim lost 2–3 to HSV despite scoring twice, conceding the decisive goal in stoppage time, and sits in 17th place with three points. Both teams are under pressure, as only three points separate them. In this matchup between the bottom two teams in the standings, important points in the relegation battle are already at stake this early in the season.

Merkur Bundesliga Matchday Preview: Highlights of Matchday 6

After just one minute, Frankfurt was already trailing in Leipzig; at halftime, the score was 0–4, and the final score was 0–6. Coach Adi Hütter was blunt: “We should be ashamed of this performance.” Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu pointed out that the team had conceded 16 goals in five games; sporting director Markus Krösche criticized the lack of aggressiveness; and captain Robin Koch had to be substituted at halftime. With five points, Eintracht slips to 14th place.

The mood in Cologne was quite different. In the Rhine Derby against Gladbach, Ísak Jóhannesson gave the FC the lead in the 26th minute; Joe Scally equalized shortly before halftime, before Said El Mala scored the winning goal in the 67th minute. For coach René Wagner, the derby victory was an important win that provides momentum for the trip to Frankfurt.

Prediction: Frankfurt is under enormous pressure and needs to immediately show a different side defensively. A strong response is expected in front of their home crowd, but Cologne is traveling with confidence and won’t make it easy for the Hessians. In the end, Eintracht will edge out a narrow victory.

Bayern’s match in Augsburg took a strange turn: After a mistake by Manuel Neuer, the record champions found themselves trailing after just 8.4 seconds. The Munich team pushed hard to turn the game around afterward, but could only manage a 2-2 draw. With 11 points, coach Vincent Kompany’s team sits in third place, two points behind Freiburg and Dortmund.

Leipzig, on the other hand, is buzzing with excitement. In their 6-0 win over Frankfurt, Ezechiel Banzuzi scored in the very first minute, and Christopher Nkunku netted goals in the 5th, 41st, and 44th minutes to record the first perfect hat trick by a Leipzig player in the Bundesliga. Antonio Nusa and Tidiam Gomis ultimately sealed the lopsided victory. With nine points, RB sits in fifth place.

Prediction: The Munich team is looking to redeem itself at home and has more individual talent on offense. Leipzig is brimming with confidence after its 6-0 win and can hold its own, but in the end, Bayern will come out on top.

Leverkusen experienced a wild game in Mainz. Robert Andrich scored in the 5th minute and Patrik Schick in the 9th to make it 2-0, but Anthony Caci brought Mainz back into the game with a brace (33rd/42nd). Jarell Quansah (55th) and Moussa Diaby (65th) put Leverkusen back on track for the win, before Benedict Hollerbach narrowed the gap to 3–4 in stoppage time. With ten points, the Werkself sits in fourth place, but the three goals conceded highlight that the defense remains vulnerable.

Freiburg is solidifying its hold on first place. The match against Schalke wasn't decided until late: After Yuito Suzuki received a yellow-red card in the 64th minute, Keisuke Gotō scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute to make it 2-1. With 13 points and a better goal differential, the Sport-Club sits atop the standings; Suzuki will miss the game in Leverkusen due to suspension.

Prediction: Leverkusen has the offensive firepower to break down any defense, but Freiburg has been incredibly solid and efficient this season. Since both teams are strong on offense—and Freiburg will also be without Suzuki, who is suspended—the match could end in a draw.
