The final will take place on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, at 21:00 in the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. The stadium of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig holds around 47,000 spectators and has already hosted major tournaments such as the 2006 World Cup and UEFA EURO 2024. There has never previously been a direct meeting between these two clubs.
Crystal Palace battled their way through the knockout stage against Mainz, Fiorentina and most recently Shakhtar Donetsk to reach the final. Time and again, it was Ismaïla Sarr who made the difference. He scored in the 3–1 first-leg win against Shakhtar and netted the decisive 2–1 goal in the return leg. In the club’s 121-year history, Crystal Palace are therefore appearing in European competition for the very first time.
Rayo Vallecano, meanwhile, gave Racing Strasbourg little chance in the semi-finals. After a 1–0 win in the first leg, another 1–0 victory in the return match was enough to secure progression. Alemão fired his side deservedly into the Leipzig final with his two goals. Rayo therefore become the first Madrid neighbourhood club ever to reach a European final.
The final now brings together two clubs that have fully earned their place on this stage. Palace have an absolute cup specialist on the touchline in coach Glasner. For him, lifting the trophy would provide the perfect farewell, as he will leave Palace in the summer. On the other side stands Rayo coach Iñigo Pérez, who is only 38 years old and has delivered immediate success in his first professional managerial role. It is he who has guided his club to the final through pure tactical discipline and composure.
Prediction: Crystal Palace possess greater individual quality and have one of the competition’s best forwards in Sarr. Rayo will put up a fight, and if they were to win the title, it would be nothing short of a sensation. However, we are backing the more experienced Crystal Palace.
