Bundesliga Matchday Predictions for 2026/27 – Matchday 7

After six matchdays, Bayern leads the standings with 14 points thanks to a better goal differential, tied on points with Borussia Dortmund. Freiburg and Leverkusen follow with 13 points each. At the very bottom, Mönchengladbach is still waiting for its first point. Matchday 7 kicks off on Friday with the game between Stuttgart and Gladbach, followed by six matches on Saturday, including the top match of the evening between Dortmund and Frankfurt. The final matches on Sunday are Hoffenheim vs. Leverkusen and the top-of-the-table clash between Freiburg and Bayern.

Merkur Quick Tips for Matchday 7 of the Bundesliga

Gladbach has lost all six of its games this season, conceding 20 goals in the process—more than any other team in the league. Even under coach Alexander Blessin, Borussia is still waiting for its first point. Stuttgart sits in 13th place with six points and most recently lost 0-1 in Hamburg. At home, however, VfB remains the clear favorite. Against the winless last-place team, the Swabians should therefore be able to secure a home win on Friday evening.

Tip: 1

After three decisive losses to start the season, HSV has bounced back. With wins over Cologne, Hoffenheim, and Stuttgart, the Hamburg team has earned nine points and put its slow start behind it. Paderborn, on the other hand, has picked up only five points in six games and most recently squandered a 2-0 lead in Bremen. For the in-form Hamburg team, it therefore looks like another victory is in store in East Westphalia.

Tip: 2

Leipzig has been at its best this season in its home arena. Three home games have yielded three wins with a goal differential of 14–0, while the team has yet to earn a single point on the road. Elversberg sits in sixth place with ten points and scored four goals in its most recent 4–3 win over Augsburg. As long as the hosts continue to defend so effectively at home, it will be difficult for the visitors from the Saarland to come away with anything at all.

Tip: 1

Augsburg has already scored 16 goals in six games, making it one of the league’s most potent offenses. However, Augsburg has also conceded 12 goals. Union has picked up four points in its last two games against Elversberg and Dortmund, remaining unbeaten in those two matches. On the road, however, the Berliners have suffered two heavy defeats so far: a 0-4 loss in Leverkusen and a 0-7 loss in Munich.

Tip: 1

Mainz has been unbeatable on the road so far, winning all three of its away games. At home, however, the team has only one point to show for its three matches. Bremen has gone five games in a row without a loss since its 1-4 opening-day defeat in Freiburg. Most recently, Niclas Füllkrug scored twice in the 2-2 draw against Paderborn. Both teams play a very attacking style of soccer; Mainz and Bremen have each scored 24 goals in their six games so far.

Tip: X

Cologne and Schalke are separated by just two points in the standings. The “Geißböcke” are undefeated at home so far this season and have earned seven points from three home games. On the road, however, Cologne has lost all three of its matches—in Stuttgart, Hamburg, and Frankfurt. Schalke has won only one game this season, a 3-1 victory at Union Berlin. Because the Rhinelanders have been significantly more consistent in front of their home crowd, we see them as having the advantage.

Tip: 1

With only four goals allowed, Dortmund has the best defense in the league. After six games, BVB remains undefeated. The offense also looks well-coordinated, as Niko Kovač’s team has already scored 11 goals. Frankfurt, on the other hand, has already conceded 16 goals and earned only four points in three away games. Offensively, however, Frankfurt has repeatedly demonstrated its quality. Even Frankfurt’s recent surge does little to change Borussia’s status as the favorite.

Tip: 1

Hoffenheim has scored at least once in all six games this season, but has also conceded 14 goals. That has been enough for only six points so far. Leverkusen has earned 13 points from six games and most recently defeated Freiburg, with Ibrahim Maza standing out as both a goal-scorer and an assist provider. On the road, however, the Werkself has managed only four points from three games so far. Nevertheless, their superior attacking quality points toward an away win.

Tip: 2

Bayern remains undefeated after six games and has scored 22 goals, the most in the league. On the road, however, the record champions have managed only one win and two draws. Freiburg, on the other hand, has won all three of its home games, conceding only two goals in the process. The Sport-Club trails Munich by just one point in the standings. That’s why we expect a top-tier matchup between two evenly matched teams that will end in a draw.

Merkur Bundesliga Matchday Preview: Highlights of Matchday 7

Cologne had an unfortunate evening in Frankfurt. Goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe kept the “Goats” in the game for a long time, but in the 77th minute, Younes Ebnoutalib scored the 1-0 goal for the Hessians. After the break, Cologne managed only two shots on goal, while Frankfurt had eleven. Said El Mala said afterward that the loss hurt incredibly. For coach René Wagner, it was the first setback following the derby victory over Gladbach.

At Schalke, the home loss to Mainz is weighing heavily on the team. Phillip Tietz scored the goal of the match in the 24th minute off a cross from Anthony Caci. After that, the Royal Blues offered little in the way of offense. Goalkeeper Loris Karius was voted the best player by the fans despite the loss. Schalke has failed to score in three home games, and with only four goals in six matches, the team has the league’s least potent offense.

Prediction: Playing in front of their home crowd, Cologne will likely be looking to bounce back from their setback in Frankfurt. Since Schalke has posed little threat on offense so far, the hosts will ultimately secure a narrow victory.

Dortmund dropped points for the second game in a row. In the 0-0 draw at Union Berlin, clear scoring chances were few and far between for both sides. Earlier in the week, Niko Kovač’s team had also lost 0-1 to Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League. The coach had warned even before the game that, after a perfect start, the most dangerous period was now beginning, because complacency could quickly lead to carelessness.

Frankfurt celebrated its first home win since March against Cologne. Following the 0-6 loss in Leipzig, coach Adi Hütter had made three changes to the starting lineup, and Ebnoutalib rewarded his team in the 77th minute with his fifth goal of the season. Captain Robin Koch called it an important response for the entire club. Off the field, the departure of sporting director Markus Krösche caused a stir last Sunday; Axel Hellmann will temporarily take over his duties.

Prediction: Ahead of the classic match in Munich, BVB will be looking to put the two draws behind them and is likely to set the pace in front of its home crowd. Frankfurt will come out playing boldly after its breakthrough win against Cologne, but in the end, Dortmund’s superior quality will prevail.

Freiburg suffered its first loss of the season at Leverkusen and thus relinquished its lead in the standings. Derry Scherhant gave the Sport-Club the lead on a counterattack in the 14th minute, but Ibrahim Maza equalized five minutes later. In the 76th minute, Patrik Schick scored to make it 2–1, and in stoppage time, Lucas Höler narrowly missed a late equalizer with a header.

With a 6-1 victory over Leipzig, Bayern delivered a powerful response following their 2-2 draw in Augsburg and 3-3 tie against Viking Stavanger in the Champions League. Luis Díaz shone with three goals, recording his second hat trick in the Bundesliga. The score was already 3-0 at halftime, and Michael Olise also hit the post and the crossbar. Harry Kane also got on the scoresheet, scoring his 102nd Bundesliga goal in his 100th Bundesliga appearance. Jonas Urbig started in goal this time, as Manuel Neuer was sidelined due to foot problems.

Prediction: It will be much tougher for Munich in Freiburg than it was against Leipzig. SC Freiburg is looking to bounce back from its loss in Leverkusen, and Bayern might still be feeling the effects of its Champions League match against Arsenal. However, if they’re in good form on the day, the Breisgauers could very well take a point from Munich.
