Bundesliga Matchday Forecast – Matchday 13, 2025/26

Matchday 13 of the Bundesliga is once again likely to showcase the excellence and versatility of Germany’s football elite. In our Bundesliga matchday forecast, the league reshuffles itself yet again: favourites suddenly stumble, and underdogs rise above themselves. It is precisely this dynamic that makes the upcoming fixtures so explosive. At the top of the table, Bayern and Leipzig are engaged in a neck-and-neck race, yet both sides reveal small but noticeable weaknesses despite their strong standings. Dortmund are fighting their way out of their run of poor results step by step, while Leverkusen want to build on their Manchester success following their setback against BVB. Stuttgart and Hoffenheim look ambitious and could well challenge Munich and Dortmund this matchday.

The situation looks different at the bottom of the table. Mainz appear disorganised, and Wolfsburg as well as St Pauli continue to fight passionately for long-awaited victories. In midfield, Frankfurt fluctuate between promising phases and inconsistent performances, Cologne struggle to find offensive solutions and Gladbach are gradually stabilising. With that, our Matchday 13 Bundesliga forecast promises intensity, surprises and decisive results.

MERKUR Quick Tips for Bundesliga Matchday 13

Mainz vs Gladbach

Things are looking increasingly bleak for Mainz: eight league games without a win, the 4–0 defeat in Freiburg lost early, a completely reshuffled team without impact and the red card for Nebel have made the situation worse. Gladbach, on the other hand, arrive with five wins from six matches, a strong defence and a stable structure. Despite small transition errors, almost everything points to a safe victory for the Foals.

Tip: 2 + both teams to score – No

Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich

Despite their generally good form, Stuttgart show fluctuations: in the 2–1 defeat against HSV, the heavily rotated side found few solutions after the early setback against a compact opponent who held on even when down to ten men. Without ideas, it will be difficult against Bayern. Although they appear stable in the table, they needed time to get a grip in matches against St Pauli, Freiburg and Union. Nevertheless, the record champions remain favourites.

Augsburg vs Bayer Leverkusen

In their 3–0 defeat to Hoffenheim, Augsburg once again revealed major weaknesses, extending the downward trend for the Bavarian side. This ultimately culminated in the early departure of coach Sandro Wagner. Although opponents Leverkusen also suffered a defeat after four wins – with a shaky defence against BVB – they had more possession and late chances. Sitting fourth in the table, the Werkself bring a higher degree of stability and quality.

Tip: 2 + over 2.5 goals

Heidenheim vs Freiburg

Heidenheim gained much-needed confidence with their last-minute win against Union, but after six defeats before that they remain offensively unstructured and stuck in the relegation zone. Freiburg, meanwhile, looked extremely decisive in their 4–0 win against Mainz, took an early lead and controlled the match clearly. The form trend speaks in favour of the more assured Freiburg side.

Tip: 2 + both teams to score – No

Cologne vs St Pauli

Cologne put in a solid performance in Bremen, controlled long stretches and remained brave even after Heintz’s injury, but missed precision in the final third prevented them from taking all three points. Their chances are good against St Pauli. The Kiezkicker surprised in Munich with an early goal and passionate defending, but collapsed again and extended their negative streak.

Tip: both teams to score – No

Wolfsburg vs Union Berlin

Wolfsburg missed their chance to turn things around in Frankfurt despite a 1–0 lead, dropped too deep after a good start and were punished late. Under interim coach Bauer, the team still looks fragile. Union’s league position is better, but their performance against Heidenheim was inconsistent: solid defending, plenty of control – but too passive in phases, leading to a bitter outcome. Both sides are fighting, but slight advantages lie with Union.

Tip: X2 + under 3.5 goals

Leipzig vs Frankfurt

RB remain stable in second place, but come from a tough 0–0 duel between two compact defensive lines against Gladbach. Without shooting star Ouedraogo, creativity was somewhat lacking, but the team still remained controlled – and will look to use this control against the more inconsistent Frankfurt. The Eagles have won just two of their last six matches and rescued a late 1–1 draw against Wolfsburg.

Tip: 1 + under 3.5 goals

Hamburger SV vs Bremen

Recently, HSV impressed with a passionate 2–1 win against Stuttgart while playing a man down, benefiting from a compact defence and dangerous counterattacks. However, the newly promoted side remain poor in creating clear attacking actions. The slightly more mature Bremen appeared controlled, flexible in their pressing and defensively stable in the 1–1 draw against Cologne. A thrilling encounter awaits.

Tip: under 3.5 goals

Dortmund vs Hoffenheim

Dortmund are gradually stabilising after difficult weeks: the 4–0 against Villarreal and the narrow win over Leverkusen – thanks to Anselmino and Adeyemi – provide a boost. However, ideas were initially lacking, leaving key players isolated for long spells. Hoffenheim will challenge the third-placed side and travel with four wins from five matches, plenty of possession and a clear attacking plan. Everything points to an open, intense duel.

MERKUR Bundesliga Matchday Forecast: Highlights of Matchday 13

In the lower third of the table, Augsburg are under pressure after their 3–0 defeat to Hoffenheim, once again exposing their biggest weakness: the defence. They were pulled apart too easily by Hoffenheim’s direct, quick attacks. Things get even more difficult now against the fourth-placed side. The early dismissal of coach Sandro Wagner is also causing major upheaval. He spent just five months and 12 Bundesliga matches on the Augsburg touchline. While the club’s modernised appearance under Wagner was welcomed, it coincided with poorer team performances. Even the previously more successful FCA often looked toothless in attack – forward moves frequently fizzled out and rarely led to real chances. For now, an interim solution is in place.

Leverkusen, meanwhile, travel with great quality despite their 2–1 defeat against Dortmund. Their previous Champions League win over Manchester City showed impressively how mature and flexible the Werkself can be. All the more disappointing that their cutting edge suddenly vanished against BVB. Nevertheless, Leverkusen had clear advantages in possession and good chances through Tillman and Schick. Their blend of ball control, pressing mechanisms and individual class remains above average at Bundesliga level.

Forecast: Augsburg will try to stay compact and look for counterattacking opportunities. But Leverkusen’s dynamism and structural superiority should clearly make the difference – everything points to a confident away win for the Werkself.

Leipzig remain one of the most stable forces in the league as second in the table. However, their 0–0 against Gladbach was a rather slow affair, with both defensive lines proving highly compact. After the injury to midfielder Assan Ouédraogo, RB are expected to be without Ridle Baku as well, who suffered an ankle injury. Can the team once again demonstrate composure, structure and defensive stability despite absences in midfield and defence? Raum and Nusa remain dangerous and were key contributors to recent successes.

The more inconsistent Frankfurt come with two wins from their last six matches and late points – such as the 1–1 against Wolfsburg in stoppage time. They show that SGE often find themselves chasing matches and struggle to maintain momentum. In their last 18 encounters, the head-to-head record is balanced, but Frankfurt currently lack clarity in attack and the defensive harmony of Leipzig.

Forecast: Frankfurt can trouble Leipzig with high intensity, but RB’s structure, squad depth and form clearly favour the hosts. Leipzig should control the match and deservedly come out on top.

Stuttgart enter this top match in sixth place and, despite the 2–1 defeat against HSV, still show solid overall form. Seven changes compared to the 4–0 in the Europa League revealed the sensitive balance within the team, though they were based on tactical considerations. The “B-team” used by Sebastian Hoeneß against HSV was defensively stable but lacked attacking threat. After the first setback, VfB found hardly any solutions against deep-defending Hamburg. The absence of defender Jaquez was also noticeable.

Bayern, meanwhile, remain dominant in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League. Recently, however, the team have shown a recurring pattern of weak, unfocused starts. Against St Pauli, Freiburg and Union, the record champions struggled early on and only later asserted their ball control and individual class. Their first Champions League defeat to Arsenal also showed that the Munich side are not untouchable this season. With rotations, Kompany is now likely to work on tactical variations within the team and aim to address the current issues.

Forecast: Stuttgart will look to attack Bayern’s vulnerability in the opening phase and press with courage. But over 90 minutes, Bayern’s greater depth, experience and individual quality still make them favourites – although with a clear warning not to fall asleep at the start once again.
