Champions League Matchday Predictions for 2026/27: Matchday 4

Matchday 4 marks the halfway point of the league season. The Champions League matchday preview features several top matches: FC Bayern travels to face Atlético Madrid, the team that eliminated them in the 2016 semifinals. FC Barcelona hosts Aston Villa, one of five clubs with three wins in three games. Manchester City plays on the road against RB Leipzig. Liverpool, also undefeated so far, travels to face Fenerbahçe, where coach İsmail Kartal is under pressure.

Paris Saint-Germain leads the standings with nine points, but will be without several injured stars in Villarreal. Borussia Dortmund faces Betis Sevilla, while VfB Stuttgart plays at Galatasaray. The matches will be played on November 3 and 4; on both evenings, two games will kick off at 6:45 p.m.

MERKUR Quick Tips for Matchday 4 of the Champions League

Shakhtar plays its home games in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge in London. There, Arda Turan’s team defeated AEK 3–1. In the Ukrainian league, Shakhtar earned 24 points from its first nine games. Sporting suffered a surprising 2–3 loss to LASK, even though Luis Suárez scored twice. In the Portuguese league, the Lisbon team remained undefeated in its first eight games.

Tip: X + Both Teams to Score

Victor Osimhen scored in the 4-2 win in Lille against his former club; it was Galatasaray’s first points of the season. In the Süper Lig, Okan Buruk’s team has earned 19 points from its first eight games. For VfB, there’s a big contrast between league play and the Champions League: In the Bundesliga, the team is still struggling to find its form, but internationally, Stuttgart remains undefeated with seven points following its 1-1 draw against Atlético. A point in Istanbul would be a more than decent result for Sebastian Hoeneß’s team.

Tip: 1 + Both teams to score

Their history together goes back a long way: In 2016, Atlético advanced past Bayern in the semifinals thanks to the away goals rule, and in 1974, the Munich team won its first European title against the Spanish side in a rematch. Diego Simeone’s team had won six consecutive competitive matches leading up to the draw in Stuttgart, but will be without Morten Hjulmand, who was sent off in that game. Although Bayern remains undefeated following the 2-2 draw against Arsenal, the team is not yet back in top form.

Tip: X + Over 3.5 Goals

Barça’s streak of 11 consecutive wins to start the season came to an end with a 2-4 loss in Paris. Lamine Yamal scored his 10th goal of the season in that match. In La Liga, Hansi Flick’s team won its first nine games, tying a record set by Real Madrid in the 1968-69 season. Aston Villa has won all three of its league games so far, most recently 3-1 against Viking. In the Premier League, Unai Emery’s team has earned 11 points from its first eight games.

Tip: 1 + Over 3.5 Goals

The two teams last met in the 2025 Round of 16, when Inter won both legs. In the Eredivisie, Feyenoord remained unbeaten in its first ten games under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but in the Champions League, the team has only three points to its credit following a 0-1 loss to Betis. Inter did not lose any of their first nine Serie A matches and secured their first victory of the league campaign against Shakhtar, with Carlos Augusto scoring the 1–0 goal while his team was down a man. Alessandro Bastoni is out after receiving a yellow-red card.

Tip: 2

Bodö plays on artificial turf at home and is locked in a tight title race with Viking in the Eliteserien. In their 3–4 loss in Naples, Hauge, Helmersen, and Fet scored. Lille has yet to earn a point after three games and squandered a 2–1 lead against Galatasaray. Ethan Mbappé will miss the match for the French side due to a suspension. In Ligue 1, Davide Ancelotti’s team has earned 15 points from its first eight games.

Tip: 1

With a 3-2 win in Lisbon, LASK celebrated its first-ever victory in the Champions League. Kalajdžić and Daněk turned the game around after halftime. In the Austrian league, Dietmar Kühbauer’s team has earned 19 points from its first ten games. Slovan is at the bottom of the standings with 13 goals conceded in three games and most recently lost 0-4 in Rome.

Tip: 1

In 2007, United beat Roma 7-1 in the quarterfinals. Things look different now: With the 1-4 loss in Como, United has gone seven games without a win—the longest such streak since 2015. Michael Carrick took responsibility, and his job is already in question. Roma remained unbeaten in their first nine Serie A games and defeated Slovan 4–0. However, captain Lorenzo Pellegrini had to leave the game due to muscle problems.

Tip: 2 + Both teams to score

PSG leads the league standings with nine points and has recently defeated City and Barcelona. The win against Barça marked the seventh consecutive competitive victory for Luis Enrique’s team. However, three players were injured in the match against Barcelona: Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos suffered thigh injuries, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia tore his cruciate ligament. Villarreal led 2-0 in Liverpool but ultimately lost 3-4.

Tip: 2 + Over 3.5 Goals

Luka Jović faces his former club: The Serbian played for Real Madrid for three years and now plays up front for AEK. The Greeks recently lost 1-5 to Manchester City, with Phil Foden scoring three goals in that match. Real Madrid has won all three of its games, including a decisive 4-1 victory over Leipzig. Kylian Mbappé scored his 73rd goal in the Champions League in that match. Real Madrid is clearly the favorite.

Tip: 2

After the 2-2 draw against Slavia, some fans called for coach İsmail Kartal to step down. Fenerbahçe has two points after three games; prior to that, they suffered a 0-6 loss at Aston Villa. Liverpool, on the other hand, has won all three of its games and came back from a 0-2 deficit against Villarreal to win 4-3. New signing Bradley Barcola has also found his form under Andoni Iraola and scored a hat trick in the 6-3 win in Linz.

Tip: 2 + Both teams to score

Betis is back in the Champions League for the first time in 21 years and has won all three of its matches. Isco is the first Betis player to score in two consecutive Champions League matches. In La Liga, Manuel Pellegrini’s team suffered a 2-5 loss to Barcelona in October. BVB managed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sabah in Azerbaijan, with Serhou Guirassy scoring both goals. At home, Dortmund is a force to be reckoned with on the international stage and is therefore the slight favorite.

Tip: 1 + Both teams to score

In the Portuguese league, Porto won its first nine games, but in the Champions League, the team has yet to earn a point after three games. In their 0-1 loss to PSV, Francesco Farioli’s team once again lacked firepower. Napoli beat Bodø 4-3, with Scott McTominay scoring twice. Massimiliano Allegri nevertheless criticized the number of goals conceded. In Serie A, Napoli also lost in mid-October to Venezia, which had been winless up to that point.

Tip: 1

With a 3-0 win over Lens, Bruges celebrated its sixth consecutive victory in competitive play; prior to that, the team had secured a 4-3 win at Inter, among other results. Captain Hans Vanaken put his team ahead against Lens. PSV won 1-0 in Porto thanks to a goal by Guus Til. In the Eredivisie, Peter Bosz’s team lost to ADO Den Haag in October on a last-second goal. Both teams play an attacking style, so a high-scoring game is likely.

Tip: X + Over 3.5 Goals

In March 2023, Leipzig lost 0–7 to City in the Round of 16, with Erling Haaland scoring five goals. Things aren’t going well for Martín Demichelis’s team right now either: a 1–6 loss in Munich was followed by a 1–4 defeat at Real Madrid. After a 2–4 loss to PSG, City beat AEK 5–1, with Phil Foden scoring his first hat trick in the Champions League. In the Premier League, Enzo Maresca’s team won their first seven games, but most recently they were defeated by Aston Villa.

Tip: 2

Following their win over Leipzig, Como also defeated Manchester United 4-1; Nico Paz was the best player on the field with two goals and an assist. In Serie A, Cesc Fàbregas’s team earned 20 points from its first nine games. Lens suffered a decisive 0–3 loss in Bruges. In Ligue 1, the northern French side has collected 13 points from eight games. This is the first competitive match between the two clubs.

Tip: 2 + Both teams to score

In 2021, Arsenal won 4-0 in the Europa League quarterfinals in Prague. In the Czech league, Slavia has earned 28 points from its first 12 games, but is still waiting for its first win in the Champions League following a 2-2 draw in Istanbul. Arsenal earned a 2-2 draw in Munich thanks to a late goal by Declan Rice, but had to substitute Bukayo Saka early due to injury.

Tip: 2 + under 3.5 goals

In their only home game so far, Viking drew 3-3 with Bayern; they’re looking to secure their first win against Sabah. In the 1-3 loss at Aston Villa, Christiansen scored the consolation goal. In the Eliteserien, Viking is locked in a tight title race with Bodø/Glimt. Sabah remained unbeaten in their domestic league through the first eight games and held their own for much of their 1-2 loss to Dortmund. Everything points to a closely contested match.

Tip: 1 + Both teams to score
