VfB got off to a rocky start to the season; with six points from seven games, their record heading into the match in Leverkusen was the worst under coach Sebastian Hoeneß. There, however, they secured an important 4-2 victory: Ermedin Demirović scored twice, Jamie Leweling and Bilal El Khannouss added goals, and with an expected goals (xG) ratio of 3.23 to 1.77, the win was well-deserved. Prior to that, Stuttgart had lost 2-3 at home to Gladbach but won 1-0 in Paderborn in the cup. In the league, VfB is now in eleventh place, but before their match against Bremen, they still face a challenge in the Champions League against Galatasaray Istanbul.
Werder is having a strong season and has been undefeated in seven league games since its 1-4 loss in Freiburg to open the season. In the 2-0 win over Hoffenheim, Niclas Füllkrug scored in the 57th minute, and Eren Dinkçi added another in the 82nd minute. With that goal, Füllkrug has now scored in seven consecutive league games, tying Rudi Völler’s club record from the 1982–83 season, and has nine goals this season. In the cup, however, Werder was eliminated in the narrowest of margins, losing 2–3 in Dortmund. Mitchell Weiser had to leave the game against Hoffenheim due to injury after just 16 minutes; his availability for the match in Stuttgart is uncertain.
Prediction: Stuttgart showed in Leverkusen just how much offensive firepower the team has, but has struggled at home so far and still has a tough match in Istanbul to get through first. Bremen is coming in with a striker in top form, but hasn't been as consistent on the road as it has been at the Weserstadion. In the end, the two teams will play to a draw.
